Le Voyage

It is little known that cheese making originated here on our fair isle, and yet our cheeses are often overshadowed by their French counterparts. Fact is, nobody does it cheddar than us....
Le Voyage du Fromage is a unique and fun charity event. The aim? To enlighten our Southern neighbours (the French) as to the sheer brilliance of English cheese by taking five of our tastiest (and possibly smelliest) cheeses over to Calais. These five cheeses will be manpowered to France by bicycle and kite surfer and presented as a Cheese Platter of Friendship, whilst at the same time raising money for charity.
The Cheese Platter
This roquefortdinary journey began on March 17th 2010 with a competition to find the best English cheeses. Esteemed members of our parliament and members of Homage de Fromage made the difficult decision as to which of our English cheeses should be The Ambassadors. The winners: Barkham Blue, Cornish Yarg, Rosary Garlic and Herbs and Saval.
Le Voyage Begins - Charity Bike Ride
The chosen cheeses will start their epic voyage with an 80 mile leg from The Lamb in Surbiton (home of the Homage de Fromage) to the South Coast of England (sunny Dungeness). This challenging ride will take place on Sunday May 2nd 2010 (it’s a bank holiday - so you will have the Monday to rest your legs afterwards). To brie or not to brie is the question....If you or any of your family or friends are keen cyclists Click Here for more details on how join the charity bike ride. Sponsor our cyclists here
Kitesurfer Extraordinaire
Unlike Cheesus Christ, Captain Rob cannot walk on water. Instead he will kitesurf the channel on a cheese board having greeted the cheeses in Dungeness. This dangerous and challenging leg of Le Voyage is not for the faint hearted, and therefore we are not asking for volunteers. Instead please sponsor Captain Rob, as he tries to beat the kitesurfing channel crossing record of 2.30hrs.
French Reception
When Captain Rob blows in to Calais he will be received by local dignatories, and Le Grand Picnic will begin on a sunny French beach.
Children, Charity and er.. Cheese
Le Voyage is not just about cheese, we are also hoping to raise at least £5k for two children's charities that are close to our hearts - The Shooting Star Children's Hospice who provide care, support and advice for children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and the Lebara Foundation helping and protecting deprived children around the world. So even if you are not a cyclist, we will need your help, Please give generously to help all these children in need.
Fromage to eternity.....
